The state flag of New Mexico was drawn in 1920 and officially adopted in 1925 where it flies to this day in the capital city of Albuquerque. The flag consists of a vibrant yellow background with a red cross resembling a symbol related to the indigenous Zia tribe that once roamed the canyons of the state. The colors red and yellow were inspired due to the historic Spanish influences upon the state.
