The Gadsen Flag or more commonly called the "Don't Tread on Me" flag was adopted in 1778 by American general Christopher Gadsen during the American Revolution. The flag depicts a Rattlesnake ready to strike from a defensive position above the words "Don't Tread on Me." The flag was commonly waved by American armies during the Revolution and the motto was adopted as a battle cry by many of the soldiers. The flag remains popular in the United States to this day to represent the principles the country was founded on.
