The state flag of Alaska consists of eight gold stars, forming the constellations of The Big Dipper and Polaris on a navy backdrop. This constellation is used as it symbolizes the image of a bear, a native animal that roams throughout the state of Alaska. The flag was adopted in 1927 in the capital of Anchorage, Alaska and still flys above the capital building to this day.
